Accuracy of pregnancy test, help?

Options
Hi, not sure if i'm putting this in the right place. not even sure if there is a right place to put it but got a question that hope someone out there will be able to help me with.

has anyone used the masterplaster pregnancy test? the one with the little dip sticks, i was told to use this as it was the best as the strips are the same the doc uses however the price was very very cheap and now i don't know whether or not to trust the result. i have used 2 and both have came up positive.

in normal situations i think most people would trust this, however my fertility is really not that high and now i've split up with my bf and docs not open til monday so just wondering if anyone else has had false results with this certain brand.

i am very grateful for any answers anyone can give me please

thanks x

It is possible to have a false positive with any brand, if you have high levels of HCG for whatever reason, then it can flash as positive, I would just wait till Monday, or maybe a few days later (if your HCG levels are high for some other reason, it gives them chance to lesson) and get your doctor to do a test and palpatation.

  • I used a similar one to those - cost a quid from savers. They worked for me - baby is asleep in her cot!

However it is possibe to have a false result with any brand. If I was you I would wait a few days and then do another test/make an appointment with your GP
  • not many other reasons for elevated HCG, IMHO!!
    CONGRATULATIONS!!!
would still get along to GP on Monday to check it out, referral to midwife etc.

I always understood that you could have a negative result if you are pregnant but don't have enough of the hormone circulating, however, you can't have a positive result without being pregnant. (Like you can't be a little big pregnant)

    Good luck anyway!
:hello:  please play nicely children !
  • I had one of these from home bargains and it came up negative, gpt a clear blue one a few days later and my baby is also asleep in her cot.

    GOOD LUCK

It is highly unlikely that there is a false positive (though it is possible to get a false negative) and to have it twice is extremely unlikely. Congratulations :D (My poundland one was also right- DD is in bed :D)

I've had a false positive with a cheap brand (home bargains). It seems that some can show up positive if the test isn't read at precisely the right time (2-3-5 mins).

If you read the tests within the correct timescale then there's a high probablility that you are pregnant but if you left them for a few minutes too long they may be incorrect. The doctor will dip the test and watch for the result. It shows up within 30 seconds with those tests, if the positive line doesn't appear straight away you can assume that you're not pregnant.

On Monday morning collect some of your first wee in a clean jar and either take it to the docs or get another test. You don't say when your LMP was, if it's late then you have a bit more reassurance that the tests are correct.
Just run, run and keep on running!
