Romantic beach wedding...

Options
Plan is... Me... Him... Beach abroad... Registrar (or whatever he/she is called!) then once back home, party for family &friends...
Anyone done it this way? Any advice? Can it be done short notice if required? Dress, rings already sorted and no one else to organise or please so I'm hoping it'll be doable!
Once we sort a date we can both get time off work it should be all systems go!!

Would love to hear others experiences! TIA x

  • Hi
That sounds lovely to me, I went and got some brochures from Thomas cook,OMG some of the weddings and venues look amazing and a lot cheaper than getting wed over here, plus you can incorporate the honeymoon into it too.

One thing I would be careful of though is that some places require you to be resident in the country for a certain amount of days before th wedding takes place, also depending on the country, you may need to have things translated etc etc.

I'm no expert but I would make a list of potential places you would like to get married then do some reaserch on the net or chat with a travel agentx

Thank you D&P I have got a few brochures &list of how long you need to be there etc. Had planned on having half honeymoon before wedding (get bit of colour for wedding too!) then have rest after wedding! Had considered the translation thing too (dome of the docs required have to be translated i have read, depending on where you go!) Would love to hear from peeps that have actually done it this way if there are any!
    It's getting a bit exciting now! X

    Hi,
We got married in Cyprus, just me, hubby and 6 guests, we got married in Paphos Town Hall-didn't really look into the beach option. For Cyprus you don't need documents translated. We booked it through Thomas Cook, it was about £500 for the wedding package on top of our holiday, we didn't take any of their optional extras and booked our own photographer etc as TC's prices were shocking! Cyprus has a 5 day residency before the wedding can take place. The wedding had to be booked at least 12 weeks beforehand for TC's paperwork etc. We had a bit of hassle with TC before we went, but the day was perfect. Good luck and hope you get the wedding you want

  • We are getting married in Cuba in July - just the two of us.

One of the reasons we chose to get married in Cuba was that you don't need to have any documents translated or legalised (if you have never been married before).

We got lots of wedding brochures from the travel agents and did a bit of research on the internet. We ended up booking the wedding directly through the hotel rather than with the travel agent. To date everything has been organised with little or no stress - just the way we want it!

Good luck in your search - very exciting!

I got married to my husband on the 8th April in Jamaica - it was just me and him and two witnesses that I met on Trip Advisor - we were married at Sandals Negril and everything on the day went perfectly. We came home on Wednesday and had a party on Good Friday - it was the bit at home that didn't go quite to plan, but that was the venue's fault rather than ours. English is the official language of Jamaica, so no translation fees. Everything was fairly simple to set up - we just needed to send out certified copies of our birth certificates etc, and fill out a Sandals questionnaire about what we wanted. We went for the free Beautiful Beginnings package and changed the magenta orchids for white ones at no extra charge. PM me if you would like more information.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Hi neenaww, haven't had a chance to reply to your pm (my inbox is full), but Barbados is a great option to get married. You don't have to be resident, you can basically turn up, get your licence and do it there and then. Our flight wasn't going to get us there in time to get the licence so that knocked that idea on the head.

The wedding planner I was going to use is Weddings by Malissa - barbadosweddings.net, she got back to me right away and was very helpful in supplying quotes. You can get as little or as much as you want and she organises the licence and meets you to take you for it - you still have to apply in person though.

I know someone who married there last year and they managed to arrange it themselves when they got there, was a wee bit mish mash though. Good luck! - I'm not jealous at all :o

No worries - if you want to see what it was like, I've just posted a thread with our pictures on it - Our Jamaican wedding (on this forum). Ours was booked through Virgin with a Sandals weddingmoon.

Wedding package was £255 on top of our holiday, we've had to fork out to have them legalised and translated into Greek. The costs after that are as large as you make them depending on what your outfits are, how many people go out and if you feed them etc. We're having dinner in a greek restaurant after the wedding, that'll be about 40 euros a head, we're having an hour or so cruise in a glass bottomed boat after the ceremony, that'll be about 450 euros. There are lots of additional options, but we're not having them.

I think if this is something you want to do, you need to go into a travel agent and have a chat with them.
saving up another deposit as we've lost all our equity.
We're 29% of the way there...
