Where can a former bankrupt person get a bank account?

Where can a former bankrupt person get a bank account?

I have a friend who was made bankrupt over 10 years ago. Unfortunately, since then, she has been unable to find a bank where she can bank conventionally. Up till now she has only been able to open an account for deposits... BUT no payments.

Does anybody know of a 'bank' that would let her have an account where she could also make payments?

Colin

    Co-Op or Barclays are both bankrupt friendly.

    Though as the BR will be off her credit file, a lot more banks should be able to open an account. Have they done a credit file clean up to make sure everything is as it should be? Be back with the link. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/677875

    I recommend the Co-op 'cos u get a FULLY functional account (electron debit card that can be used abroad as long as you tell them you're going or they'll block it for security reasons, plus internet/phone banking etc etc). The phone banking service is 24 hours, not just UK office hours and you can use the Post Office to pay in/withdraw which is plenty of 'open-all-hours branches. Ok it's 6 years now since I went under but a Barclays account gave me a cash card for Barclays ATMs only. The Post Office offer a very basic account as well & I think Nationwide do a basic account but the Coop is (in my opinion) best... .
    Just a word of warning: make sure you keep your finances in order now (ie don't overdraw) 'cos if you do, you'll end up with no banking facility and that can be a major problem (no Ebay, no phone contract, no Internet shopping etc etc;

    Co-op are still offering electron cards alongside visa debit cards.......I've just discovered...one can have the choice, apparently!

    The numbers wont change significantly either, so I wonder whether the Visa debit is really an electron by another name?
    No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

    The running issue with the co-op cards, mine has not changed but can get internet shopping with tesco, internet pizza with dominos but not accepted by dominos for phone order/payment - strange. I am however happy with the co-op and their service.
