CCCS, Debt remedy what next.

Yesterday I went through the CCCS debt remedy online and they recommended a DMP, which I signed up for. I got an email saying they will send all the relevant information through the post.

I've read a lot of people saying they have had phone appointments with people from CCCS to discuss options, will I have to do this too?

From the email I received from them yesterday it sounded as though All I had to do was sign forms and send letters to my creditors that are due to be paid before the DMP is set up. It doesn't say anything about a phone call.

Has anyone else applied online?

I'm worrying I've done something wrong or that I won't be accepted now, I felt like a big weight had been lifted after I applied yesterday and now all the worrys are starting to creep back in that it can't be this straightforward to get help after all these months of stress.

It will be fine. I presume that the you have divulged all your debt including account numbers and amounts to CCCS. If this is the case then they have assessed everything and decided that the DMP is the way for you.

Thanks for that I was a fool, I just wasn't sure if I should have phoned them or something, I would hate for it to go wrong.

Lenny, I've told them about all my debt, but as of yet they haven't asked for any account numbers, just the amounts and who I owe it to. I presume I will have to send all that to them once the DMP pack comes through the post.

Yep, they will correlate all this information once they receive it and then send correspondence to all your creditors informing them that they are acting on your behalf and make an offer of payment. it should, repeat, should be plain sailing from there.

Thanks Lenny, it's nice to know I am still heading in the right direction :D I have only had a couple of phone calls from co's I owe money to so far, MBNA a couple of months ago and Egg yesterday. I've also called Halifax myself to make them aware I was having problems.

Egg were really helpful and very polite, I wish I could say the same for the other 2 co's. Once I have all the paper work from CCCS I'll feel a bit more confident in telling them I can't pay but am working things out.

I found Egg to be very polite also. They where, however, very quick to issue default notices on my CC and loan.

  • Egg were the same with me, but warned me in advance that the default notices would be issued & said "they are very strongly worded but dont worry, they are just standard letters" and that they would work with CCCS.

I liked the way they were so professional & clued up, not like MBNA, who lectured me like a naughty schoolgirl...

Yeah that wouldn't surprise me! A couple of years ago I went over my limit by about £5, I was using the card for the annual balance transfer offer and the actual interest was more than the estimate, so when the interest was added after the transfer I went over the card limit. I had 5 calls in one day to tell me that. I paid £40 with my visa card on the first phone call thinking that would set things straight (the £5 over my limit plus £35 they said they would be charging me), but nope. By the 5th call I refused to explain what had happened AGAIN and just put the phone down.

Next month my statement came, they hadn't charged me and everything looked ok...3 days after the statement I got another letter telling me I needed to phone them urgently...when I did it was about the problem the month before...which had been long sorted.

I'm all for responsible lending but that did seem a bit extreme.

I completed mine online and have had the paperwork through, it is easy enough like you just have to photocopy a form and send to you creditors, i was just worrying about what a dmp looks like on your credit file? Do you automatically get more defaults?

When I set mine up, I had a couple of calls with the CCCS. All it is is to go through your paperwork and give you a guiding hand. It's nothing serious. Also they initially talked me through my options and gave some advice. It's nothing daunting.
