Hi
i have my sister and her boyfriend round tonight, we have decided to cook a nice meal instead of our usual saturday night take away which costs £40 between us for 4 people 1 child. we have a budget of 20.00 and fancy something abit summery and not too heavy and a desert.

How about some form of steamed or grilled fish, with new potatoes and mange tout and baby corn, or green beans, something along those lines. Followed by a home made icecream sundae, or eton mess type thing - bashed up meringue, strawberries, vanilla ice cream and cream I think?:heartpulsSpoiling my two baby girls with love - it's free and it's fun!:heartpuls
I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

You could be in luck - remember that all the big supermarkets are closed by law tomorrow (the fake conershop style ones won't be ) so there could be loads of whoopsied stuff. DH and I went to Asda about 10 this morning, and there were cages of stuff to be reduced. We're thinking of heading off to Waitrose after Doctor Who to see if there's anything interesting left.
So what about:
quiche/ savoury tart (or a roti chicken from the hot counter)
Salad leaves/ veg
new potatoes (steamed or parboiled then chucked in a hot oven to crisp up)
Something indulgent from the bakery counter
A bottle of (cheapish) wine.
You should be able to get something nice for £20, depending on how much kitchen time you want to put in.
Have a great eveningSurviving the ups and downs of life with DH

One of my favs is jacket potatoe (think the 4 packs are on offer in sainsburys at the min) with chicken breast that has been marinated in honey and wholegrain mustard, with corn on the cob and coleslaw-the chicken breasts are 1/2 price in sainsburys at the minute-think it was £3.30 something for a pack with 4 in??!! ...........think I know what i'm having for dinner tonight :rotfl:0

If you want to keep things simple.
Starters: goats cheese salad, Main: Grilled fish, baby sweetcorn, mangetout, baby new potatoes, with some sort of sauce/dressing, followed by tarte au citron.
Yummy, and easy!0 -
I've just got back from my local Mr T and bags of Charlotte potatoes were reduced to 25p, we're having them halved with skins on in mayonnaise with a couple of garlic cloves crushed in to accompany a roast chicken (too hot for my planned roast dinner!) and a bag of reduced green salad.
Punnets of strawberries were reduced to 65p which we'll have for pudding with squirty cream as the kids love it!Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
Thanks everyone
Had a lovely and bargin filled night!! we had chicken (roti) which was reduced to 99p for a massive one! which we put on crusty baguettes ( reduced to 19p each! from the bakery) and sprinkled cheese on the top - under the grill with salad and corn on the cobs. Followed by eton mess which was lovely
we treated ourself to a bottle of wine aswell which was nice- we all agreed it was so much nicer and cheaper than our usual takeout
we will be doing this in the future!
happy easter everyone!0 -
Glad you had a lovely night. So how much was your spend compared to your usual 40 quid takeaway? You should count up what you saved and it will give you even more incentive to diy again.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
