DMP Imminent - Excited :)

Hi, I know it sounds strange to be excited about something like this! My partner and I have lived together for over three years, over which time we have struggled with our debts having put them together.
I spoke to the CCCS because I saw no alternative. The lady who became our counseller is lovely, on the interview call she really put my mind at rest and didn't ask judgemental questions.
So....we got the final paperwork through this morning detailing how much would go to each creditor. Now I am planning to earn extra money from home (I am self employed as well as full time employed) and then we aim to pay off the lowest debts in one go - to free up more cash for the DMP and therfore becoming debt free quicker. Currently, the estimate is 12 years, but I know that I can earn more and therefore pay more, and we can spend less than what's on the budget. We're aiming for 7-8 years or even less.
I know it's not an easy route and we could face some problems with our creditors, but we were paying a number of them nothing so hey...we would have had more serious problems if we had done nothing.
We're now looking forward to a happier future and the most exciting bit...we should now be stable enough to start a family sometime soon!
I need to thank BBC Radio 2 for featuring Martin Lewis, who made us aware of the support that's available.

Thank you.
I forgot to mention that we are also in the process of trying to reclaim our bank charges...Barclays have returned my £10 cheque while my partners ex-bank Nationwide have cashed it.
We shall see what come from that process!
So good to feel in control.0 -

What a lovely post vicki_1981!
You are right to feel excited. You have taken control of your finances and are dealing with it in the best way for you. I am sure the time will fly by and you will be debt free happy in then knowledge that you worked hard to get there.
I wish you the best with everything.
PS Hope Martin sees this post as it shows again what difference he makes to people's lives. :TLeason learnt :beer:0 -
Well it's looking good so far. My OH has just received a letter from Capital One stating they have taken back the account from a DCA and will negotiate directly with the CCCS. They are also freezing all charges and interest for 30 days until they have further communication from the CCCS.
They even said to ignore further letters as there will probably be some automatic ones!
Not so bad...
We also received a letter from Cahoot regarding our loan which was a nice letter.
Seems to be going well up to this point.
Thanks for the support - I'm getting hooked to this site!0 -
Hi Vicki:hello:
i agree its the best feeling in the world knowing you have taken action to stop yurself getting deeper and deepr into debt. CCCS are great and easy to talk to. some of our creditors were awful and 6 months down the road we ae still trying to get agreements set up with 2 companies.. hope that doesnt happen to you.
best of luck:beer:'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0
