loan company sending a representative to our door.

Options
I am on a self managed DMP, owe £34000 to 12 creditors. Half have now agreed but some are still being awkward.

The AA loan company have sent a letter today saying they are sending a rep on the 26th April. To stop it happening we need to call them

Do I:

Let them come and turn them away knowing they have no rights or...
Phone them and tell them to not bother sending them and they will get no money anyway.

I would send them a letter telling them they have no right to send them, but it is too late

As long as you know that!

A letter/email/phone call to them *may* stop them wasting their time - but that's always supposing their letter to you isn't just a threat to try to get you to pay up or ring them. They may well have no intention of sending anyone.

The general advice on here is DON'T ring them - get everything in writing and if they ring you, refuse to answer the security questions and ask them to communicate in writing.

(ETA : You know all this - you've been managing your own DMP...hopefully it might help someone else!)

    Have just re-read it.

It states that "Our representative will be calling your home on 26th April"

That could be taken to mean they are visiting but it sounds more like they will call by phone. I bet the company hopes you will mis-read it.

Are you sure the letter says they will send someone to see you?

Typically these letters use the word may a lot, which in reality means won't.

It's probably just an empty threat to encourage you to call them. It's extremely rare that lenders send round the boy(s).

Ah, yes, that means a telephone call. But you're meant to think they're sending a real person out to bang on your door.

A lot of companies threaten this type of thing. Just remember that just beacuse someone knocks on the door or phones you it doesn't mean you have to answer :)

I had someone call on me...I told him to s*d off and shut the door. When the guy refused to leave, I called the police and they soon got rid of him and the guy looked a bit of an idiot. They have no rights and you do not even have to answer the door to them.

Another creditor threatened to send a doorstop collector and when I send them the template letter, they then replied and said they had no intention of sending anyone anyway!
