on-line shopping using Electron

Hi Everyone

This is my first Christmas without credit cards and I need to shop on line instead of going to the shops... too much study ... plus hopsital stay looming.

However I am finding it difficult as not all retailers will take the electron card - tesco won't.

Does anyone know of sites that do..... I would liek to food shop plus books, clothes for christmas presents.

Thankyou for any suggestions.

I know Amazon accept electron so you could get your books from there.

http://www.thebookpeople.co.uk also accept electron and you can often pick up some good bargains.

I've just checked and Sainsburys accept electron.

Hi, there are loads that take electron and many that don't have the electron logo or option on the payment screen, but when you put your card details in under "VISA" the payment goes through.

You can also register you electron card at PayPal and pay at many shops through them.

When I first had my Electron card in 2002 it was a nightmare as I was already well into online shopping and suddenly found that I couldn't buy anything anywhere without a "proper" credit or debit card, but things are a lot better now!

Just some examples of online shops (many of which you can find discount codes for either in the discount codes section of this site, or by googling/yahooing "STORENAME" discount or "STORENAME voucher:

    iwoot.com
    firebox.com
    amazon.co.uk
    gadgetshop.com

Plus more here: http://www.ukorbit.com/Information.htm - click the "SHOPPING" link at the top of the page and then the category and it will bering up a list of sites and what cards they accept.

A good rule of thumb is to check the site first to see if it blatantly states "YES WE TAKE ELECTRON", i.e. has the electron logo, but if all else fails, give the purchase a go using the "VISA" option. Chances are if it turns out that that site doesn't accept Electron, you'll find the prodcut on another site that will (just kelkoo or pricerunner the item)

    Hope this helps!!!
  • As above - but please as I am another Electron user pls remember to send the ones who don't accept it a compaint letter or email letting them know that you are unable to use their services!

I know someone has mentioned Paypal - Also don't forget Ebay for pressies etc I have got some great bargains for the kids

It is annoying, Asda doesn't accept Electron either. I don't understand whyif they do in their shops, surely it's no different than accepting other debit/credit cards?

Got to say if you struggling for pressies for ppl print out some pics of your children or get the kids to draw/paint some pictures and frame them with cheap frames from ikea or somewhere ... I have done this in the past and ppl love the thoughtfulness
