Free directory calls from Landline

Just read on the Guardian website that 118 188 have thrown in the towel and will make their calls free.
Apparently people don't want to pay their 'extortionate' charges and have given them the wide berth :D
Shows what people power can do.

From Monday you can call 0800 118 FREE or 0800 118 3733 it's free for landline only.

Thats quite a good idea but knowing these systems it will give you a number to a person name sounding different to the name you given it.

I guess it's worth a try. My husband use the 118 service too often and we are trying to lower our phonebill.

A.They have not thrown in towel and will still operate a chargeable service.

B.Read the T&C of the new service carefully

    http://www.118.com/Help/Terms.htm

You need to submit application form to use service.Which requires you to enter mobile no.

    http://www.118.com/registration/default.aspx

"We will automatically include your mobile number in our database for the purpose of call connecting callers who wish to contact you. You can withdraw permission for this by e-mailing free@118.com but if you do so you will no longer be eligible to access or use 0800 118FREE. "

Plus you have to listen to ads before you get number.

Read Martin MSE article here on the cheapest way to get numbers with no strings attached!!!

This reminds me of 1800 FREE 411 DQ in the US and that service has been going for quite a few years and is very successful.
