When I make Granny squares for blankets I use a 4.5 or 5 hook with DK yarn.

Just wanted to say good luck. I have spend the last week trying to teach myself crochet from scratch using youtube. I made a carrot hurrah but really want to make my 3 year old a holey cardigan but fear after reading loads of patterns the holes I would make shouldn't be there lol0

an update from me. i got my hook and wool. Read and watched countless tutorials.
i could understand how to do the stiches but i couldn't seem to understand the pattern instructions. so in the end i went and got my little boys crochet blanket and just copied the design.
The result , last night i got busy and...........
One crochet baby blanket being made. I can't tell you how chuffed i am, it took a few attempts to get it right and even now the middle of the blanket isn't perfect. but for my first ever blanket i'm thrilled. it is about 8 inches square. it grows so fast. i'll hopefully get it finished in a coupld of days and show it off. i'm doing just one colour for the minute to get used to doing it. then i'll experiment.
i showed my dd this mornign and she told me it was beautiful, awwww how sweet.0 -
you will enjoy doing it and it does grow very fast last year for winter i made a big one for our king size bed, took ages but looks great, also so far this year made 2 pram ones and a cot blanket for my niece and someone has asked me now to make one for them and they will pay me which is nice that it is appreciated.ive still 2 to make for my girls beds for winter which i really must start soon too.:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

i agree very addictive.
i was gonna get someone to make a cot one. she charges £4 per blanket. but seeing as the wool i buy is only £1.25 a ball that inspired me to to get on with it and give it ago.
so far blanket is about 14 inches square now. gonna crochet one whole ball of wool and see how big it turns out.
T, has asked for one for her bedroom. but i love the patchwork quilt on her bed that her nan made, however i proberly will do her one. might keep my sanity while the building work is going on.0 -
the girls use my big oner for snuggling on sofa etc lol it doesnt take long to go through a ball of wall and besides if you wanted to take it with you anywhere its easy to carry around car, train journeys etc so you can carry on with it where ever and when ever ive also found £1.25 very reasonable whenever i go in tri first now the lady tells me when they are getting deliveries in as she knows i get it for me and my nan lol:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0
