Barking dog in my park

Hi we live in a park with perhaps up to 30-40 houses.
A bit further up from us there is a house that has a golden retriever/labador. It is outside at times and when it is it will bark. While it does not be out all the time, there are times when it seems to be put out and it will bark for what I consider a considerable amount of time. Last night for eg we were sitting out in our garden enjoying the weather when I heard it begin barking at a bit before 7. We came in shortly after this. It continued to bark until at 7.45 we turned up the tv loud to drown it out. I forgot about it but when tv went back down at 8.30 - I could still hear it barking.
While it doesn't bark for this lenght all the time, most days it will bark for at least 15- 20 mins at minimum twice a day. Many Saturday mornings it is barking before 9am. I'm up anyway but is just annoying.
It is really starting to grate on me, especially when I look up and there seems to be a car in their drive as if they don't bother to take it in. Don't get me wrong but I love dogs and always had dogs growing up but we always seen to them when they barked or took them in. I wouldn't be comfortable approcahing them as they are quite friendly with another family opposite who are well known for being rather unsavoury characters. If I call the council, I believe I have to give my name and address for it to be investigated. Does anyone know if this is completely confidential. My worst fear would be the council calling to their house and then pulling in to our drive to discuss something and the problem dog owners spotting them! Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

They shouldnt take the dog in just because it barks. That will make it think that all it needs to do is bark to get inside.

I'm pretty sure that your details will be kept confidential if you ask for them to be. Think the DPA would see to that. If it were ever to go further than a simple complaint though then your details might need to be disclosed.

I had this problem 3 years ago with my next door neighbour.

I asked them a few times to stop the barking - it was all day every day as it was left out while they were at work.

I spoke to the local council and was asked to keep a log for 2 weeks once i did this they visited and observed for themselves. It took quite a bit of chasing them to keep the momentum going but eventually they issued a noise abatement order and about 6 months later as it was still happening they prosecuted the neighbour.

The dogs owner does not have to know its you behind any council action but unless you keep pushing them to act, they can be a bit apathetic about it.

Before "informing" on your neighbours, I would suggest a polite knock at the door of the neighbours and explain that the dog is barking. Do not assume that they know that it is barking so much or that they think that it is annoying the neighbours.

As for the poison sausage suggestion, you could face a short jail sentence if the dog ate it and a slightly longer one if a kid ate it by mistake.

I definately won't be approaching them. To be honest, they aren't the most approachable. They def would know it is barking. I actually don't know how they put up with it themselves. We can hear it clearly and we are about 15-20 metres away!

Go on ahead and report it, just prepare to keep the pressure on because at the end of the day the council representative doesn't have to put up with the noise. It should be confidential - but you can always ask them about confidentiality before you give your name and address.

I go dog walking every night with my friend who also has a dog.She lets it bark the whole time and knows full well its getting on my nerves.Last night i made the point of just leaving and going home as i was so stressed out.Continual barking wth.
If my own barks she tells him to be quiet. Cant understand how these people have selective hearing when it comes to their own dog barking.
I am hoping that by the mere fact that i left last night because of her dog barking that tonight will be different and she will have taken the hint.If not i am either going to have to refrain from going walking with her or dream up something to put the wind up her about dogs barking and the law or something...Its doing my head in.
I hope you get your problem sorted with your neighbours dog.I also have a neighbour who lets her dog bark out in the garden for ages. Its most inconsiderate and annoying to other people.
