JSA between college and uni

My daughter finishes college in June. If she gets the grades she will start University in September.
She wants to look for a full time job when she leaves college. Whilst she is looking can she sign on for job seekers allowance?

That's similar to what I want to know.
I was at uni but upon starting my second year I really felt the uni wasn't for me. I was advised by uni to take a leave of absence which means I don't attend but there is a place for me to go back to in September. I took the leave of absence in December but have applied to go to a different uni from September. I was unsure if I could claim because of technically having a place being kept open for me.
So if anyone knows whether I can claim or not I'd be grateful to know. I did email my local job centre yesterday but had no reply as yet.Saved: £1566.53/ £20000 -

are you still receiving child benefit for her? Sometimes child benefit (and child tax credits) are paid until the end of August after a child finishes college and as far as I know that means she can't claim JSA for that time.:)0 -
I may be wrong (memory failure), but I believe we were informed between my leaving Sixth Form and entering University that JSA could be claimed _if_ Child Benefit was withdrawn. Which would have resulted in a net surplus.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -

I think the reason Child benefit is payable until the end of the holidays following college is probably to prevent students applying for JSA. It is possible that the OP's child may be eligible for a few weeks in the September between child benefit ending and university starting. They would obviously need to be actively seeking work in that time though.:)0 -

I was informed you could withdraw from Child Benefit payments and sign up for JSA - in the end I got a part time job for 2 months instead, so I've no idea how accurate that info is.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”

As far as I am aware, if you are registered at a university you cannot claim. I've actually finished my course now, but have to sit out the six weeks to my end date before I can claim.0 -
For someone in further education (not higher education) Child Benefit will be paid until the beginning of September (IIRC up to the first Sunday in September). You can withdraw from Child Benefit any time you like however you will not be entitled to JSA. You would then have to attempt to reclaim your Child Benefit again with no guarantee that it would be backdated.0

I had to defer uni for a year a few years ago and because there was a place kept for me they wouldn't let me have a bean sadly, but because your going from one uni to another it might be different.:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

Could we choose to give up the child benefit though so that she could sign on?0 -
Her place at uni is dependant on her grades, so until she gets her results surely she is entitled to look for a full time job and therefore entitled to JSA.0
