Bankruptcy not on credit file....

Hello all,

I was discharged in September 2010 from bankruptcy and married last month - so I now have a different surname. I have checked my credit files and there is no mention of me being bankrupt. It also shows that I am not now on the electoral register.

All previous credit agreements & addresses show on my file.

Once the council amend the electoral information, do you think the bankruptcy will then appear on the file?

Thanks

When you did your credit search did you put your maiden name as well as your married name? The bankruptcy bit shows up at the beginning of the search, not in the same place as the creditors.

    Hello,

Yes, both names are present. There are some glaring annomolies on Experian. Equifax is more accurate - but both show no court action/ judgments.

Experian almost certainly have the record of your bankruptcy on file somewhere, as they get the info on all bankruptcies as a matter of course.

Normally it's just a question of working out why the bankruptcy hasn't been linked to the credit report that has been generated when you requested your file.

A credit report is just a series of pieces of linked info. Inconsistances between info from 2 different sources can stop the link between the 2 being made.

The update of the electoral role info might do it?

A common reason is a mismatch between the name/address on the bankruptcy order and the previous names/addresses you supplied for your report? Even small differences can stop things showing up.

It's no big deal that the BR doesn't show up. As long as you are aware that at any time that "link" might be made and it will suddenly show.

Also, just because you don't see it at the moment, that doesn't necessarily mean that a creditor won't when checking your file.

Have you done any of this yet?

If at any point in that you need help from the CRA, then you will probably have to give them the BR details anyway.

Thanks for the replies, we are just starting the clean-up now. As you say, I am sure the BR will show at some point with the CRAs.
