holiday pay - bank holidays

If you are on holiday, and the day is a bank holiday and its been authorised, Do i assume that you get paid time and a half asif you had been working that day ?

Thers is no legal right to be paid extra for working a bank holiday. An individual employer may decide to pay extra but that is up to them and will be in your contract. If you aren't working why on earth would you get paid extra?Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I think the OP means if they would normally be paid time and a half for bank holidays, as company policy, then shouldnt they get that if they are off on leave, as that is the wage set for that day. I dont actually know the answer OP, but I understand where you are coming from.
I only wish I got paid time and half for actually being there, as im working every bank holiday we get!Everyone who thanks me when ive helped will get a 5% share when I win this weeks Euromillions......:p0 -
my gut instinct is to say no and that you would only get a normal days pay because the extra pay for a bank holiday is there to work the inconveniant day...by taking holiday you are not being inconvenianced timewise.
However your contract may say differant.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Also if you work the BH and your holiday allowance includs bank holidays they need to give a different day off paid.0

No but a decent employer would let you have the bank holiday as part of your holiday enabling you to save 1 day of your 20-30 days you get per year.As said no employer has to pay/give Bank holidays . No you won't get extra holiday pay. If you do get paid extra for working bank holidays (and count yourself lucky your employer has no obligation to do this) then the extra pay is for working unsociable/inconvienent hours - you're not working so why would you get the extra money?0

I thought it would be normal for say you have a week off, one of the days is a BH then you are only actually booking 4 days off.
Thats the way its always been with any company I have worked for.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Depends if you work bank holidays or not, if the company as a rule doesn't then you would only take 4 days of your flexible holidays but actually you will be taking 5 days of as one is your fixed bank holidaysThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Thats the way its always been with any company I have worked for.
Since the introduction of the WTR it has become more usual to quote holiday entitlement as including BHs.
Where BHs are included (or where they were always given) then there is (and was) no need to book the bank holiday.
Where BHs are part of meeting the statutory minimum entitlement, they can therefore be specified by the employer as holiday and do not require booking separately. Alternatively, where there is the possibility that employees may be required to work on a BH, they do need to be booked if the days are to be taken as holiday.0
