Blackpool has cheaper properties. Northumberland is nice. Another thousand plus miles of coastline to pick from...

Why pick one of the most expensive places outside London, just for the sea ?

Because that's where the OP wants to go.. and I know plenty of people who've made the same decision in recent years, and none seem to be regretting it.

In a nation of dismal towns and identikit provincial cities, Brighton stands out as one of the places, other than London, that has *something* about it... especially for people who are relatively young and not fulfilled by the 'scene' and culture in your usual town/city. They elected a Green party MP.. if that doesn't tell you that it's a little bit different.. and not at all like Blackpool.. then, well, nothing will!

A long running thread on Brighton property prices can be found here:

    P.S.

Compare the prices in LS1 and BN1.

They do point and laugh when they hear a northern accent in Brighton.
  • I agree with Noodle, and that's kind of what you (OP) suggested yourself in your original post.

Also, if you are "only" 25 (I can say that in my forties!) then the fact that you already own a house puts you well ahead of the curve -isnt the average ftb well into their 30s nowadays?

Brighton is a great, vibey place , and always has been, speaking as someone who has regularly visited over the last 25 years!

Also, as another contributor pointed out, once you are down there, you can work out where to buy -there are places along coast within easy reach of Brighton that are cheaper than living in the city for example.

    Good luck!
