I have friends that work in bettingshops, they love it, because they are open 7 days a week from 8-930 they tend to work just 3 days a week and at worst 3.5 days, so they are never stuck on a 5 day week and have more days not working than they do working as if they had a 9-5 job, they can sit and watch what ever is on sky sports all day which suits as they are into sport. I gather its not such a pleasent job in cities with higher crime rates and being sat behind a glass screen and so idiotic customers, but where I live they are smoke free nice clean air conditioned work places. yes, it is very different working for an independant. sometimes they are better and sometimes worse, i have worked for this company for 19 years and it has been great, but now with this new guy having bought the company outright it is horrid and the gaffer is a @#!!*$

Except he's not necessarily wrong, it depends on whether your contract says you have Bank Holidays off or not because there is no automatic entitlement to Bank Holidays. You don't have a written copy of your contract and he hasn't consistantly applied the same rules you can't claim that one way or the other are 'implied terms'.

No one can answer his question other than your employer. Ask him for a written statement showing how your holidays are to be taken, because you are very confused.

surely though, at the end of the day, i am legally entitled to 28 days holiday whether or not i work bank holidays
we do not get paid extra for working them and bank holidays we are ALWAYS open its a bookies busier days

Yes, you need to have 5.6 weeks (28 days for a 5 day a week worker) but they do not have to be allocated to Bank Holidays.

If you are always open on Bank Holidays, then it would stand to reason that none of your holidays are pre-allocated, and that you should be booking them if indeed you do want to be 'on holiday' on a bank holiday, not assuming your boss will book it for you.
