Woo, that's the big one gone!

OK, I'm not in a massive amount of debt compared to some here - about £2500 in total, comprised of a £500 overdraft, £200 and £1300 credit cards, and £500 catalogues.

Today is payday. And bonus month. My bonus has cleared the £1300 card, slicing my debt in half in a single blow.

Now I just need to leave it alone.

Instead of cutting up the card you could freeze it, literally! Someone on here once tried this. Get an old icecream tub, fill with water put card in and freeze, you still have the card if there is an emergency but if you want to use it you have to thaw it slowly or the card snaps!

    Well done!

Interesting concept! However, paying it off has eaten into my 'usual' budget a bit more than I'd like, so it's not an option this month at least - I now have £250 to last 4 weeks, which is likely to be a bit tight to say the least. I have about £200 on the overdraft and Card #2 to fall back on should it be needed, but I need Card #1 available just in case.

Overdraft and Card #2 are both more expensive in terms of interest, but it's worth that few extra pounds to keep the psychological barrier of having a zero balance on Card #1.

Well done - happy days!!! :)

I agree with GeorgieFTB, locking the card in a block of ice will stop you using it without a certain amount of effort on your part ;)

I cna vouch for freezing cards. I froze my credit card a while ago. Left it in a cup of ice in the freezer for two months. I left it out to defrost and it worked fine. I now just use it for regular bills and clear it at the end of each month, the way credit cards should be used!
