Hi All
What an awful day today started to be.... Woke up late but was feeling positive and planned to start Christmas shopping after a hosptal appointment. Like a good DFW I checked my bank balance first - shock! horror! the mortgage had bounced, a monthly credit had not been received. Also cccs payment had not gone out.
No time to follow these up as time to leave for hospital. Now found out that operation due on 18th Dec will be worse than I thought. The Christmas shopping I had planned to do after placement finished, assignments in and op over will not now happen - no money - no time.
However feel more positive this evening - a good cry and a few phone calls have resorted my faith in human nature. Mortgage will be taken again in the middle of the month and if this payment is ok no charges. CCCS have rejigged the budgets to account for huge mortgage rise and powergen bill so paying £80 less each month.

poor you, pants start but a better end.
Fingers crossed the docs are just giving you worst case scenario on your op and that it won't be as bad as you expect. (((hugs)))0 -
A real knock you down, pick you back up kinda day there!
Sorry to hear the op wont be as straight forward as you hoped....will you be home in time for Christmas?
Good news 'bout the mortgage etc tho & payments reducced too :jI THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
Thanks Looby and Psykic
I was just thinking that - maybe they were giving me the worst case and then I wont feel so bad when it is just at the horrid level. Major nightmare to organise child care and school run as will not be able to drive for a few days at least.
I had planned to go shopping today so leaving all weekend for work on essay and presentation. Ah well at least children know the money or rather lack of it situation but it will be hard for them as we live in an affluent area - peer pressure - and they both have birthdays as well this month.
Where does the time go - have a mountanous pile of ironing and more washing for tomorrow, a pile of fire wood to chop and essay to plan and start - 9 days til hand in.... yikes
Not sure how much to budget for stockings and presents plus birthday presents... have to be realistic but still want them to enjoy christmas.

can you do any of your shopping online, it's much quicker than trailing round the shops in person and if you look over on the Grabbit and discounts boards you can often find things much much cheaper. Amazon have a pretty good sale on at the moment on toys and electrical, and if you order over £15 you get free delivery.
I've done most of my shopping online this year, I've saved quite a bit and it's been hassle free

hi methekidsandthecat, on the bright side is that if you weren't a diligent DFW you might not have checked your accounts this morning ... whereas you did, and while it was awful you made prompt calls and got it sorted. So well done you. As for the op, that must have been a shock too but here's hoping that it will all go smoothly & be fine. And I really hope you & your family have a fantastic Xmas, tight budget or not. this might sound trite but at least you do have each other ... not everyone can say that xx cathy0

Thanks Cathy
It is very true - we do have each other - DD actually said to me today that Christmas is meant to be about family not things and we could play games...
I cried!!
She has also request a movie night in.... Logs on the fire, pizza and pop, followed by Chocolate ice cream and two DVD's to watch. She will be 14 next week.... a mature head on young shoulders.
Can't shop on line as I only have an electron card - although I am making a sweeping judgement as I have only tried it on Tesco - not accepted.

Hi there - here's something to make the day a bit better and to help the shopping a little. IWOOT take Electron and this thread has a £5 off no minimum spend code. The delivery is £3.95 but it might get a stocking filler or two - apparently there are some bits for £1.99

What a rotten day - but it does seem to have finished well.
Sometimes I think these things happen just so we - and those around us - really appreciate what we have got. I never seem to learn - but my kids always appreciate the wee things I get for them for Christmas (cuddly cushion couple quid from Avon, daft socks, wee ornaments etc) than the stuff that really takes up the money. But still always get them the expensive stuff too - not this year!
I'm sure you'll have the loveliest Christmas!

oh what a sweetie!! there you go, she obviously understands. so much easier than families where the kids are demanding the latest of everything. if your family knows Christmas is about "family & not things" then you'll all have a brilliant time... well I hope so anyway!! you deserve it after your rough time today0
