Wood a rubber Matt offer a less toxic surface under kids climbing frame?Or fake grass

Hi.. I would just like to ask you a question.

I am looking to cover the dense shade area around my kids climbing frame. Research shows that grass will not grow due to high shade from large over hanging tree plus near by fence.

Woodchip is no good as this becomes a cat toilet. I looked at artificial turf/grass; but I read somewhere that this will expose my kids to toxic chemicals from the fake grass.

Is rubber a more natural material? I am just trying to fine something that is suitable. Suggestions welcome.

Fake grass is toxic? Maybe there is something I don't know about this specific example, but the word toxic gets used a lot and often with little basis. I've seen many web sites telling me that vitamin E in shampoo (by it's chemical name tocopherol acetate rather than common name) is one of the 'toxic ingredients' added to personal care products. So, how trustworthy is the source?

As long as kiddo are not going to trying to eat either any off gassing of chemical outside will be so little and so diluted down that your kiddos wont absorb any at all.
