just got water bill from old house share - what to do?

Hi Guys Long time lurker, now needs some advice!

I lived in a house share with three other guys, left due to the landlord selling up to another landlord, moved out about Sept 2007.

One of us moved out first, leaving the other two to move out on later as the new landlord was going to gut the house and re-do everything.

I am sure we paid all outstanding bills, one because we were all adult guys and honest and also because the new landlord was a nice guy and I didn't want to stiff him.

I came home today to find a bill from the local water co. requesting I pay £80 in outstanding water charges! I am sure all bills were all paid up at the time so am surprised to get this - have I been stitched up somehow? (The spelling of my name is wrong)

Not sure what to do, any advice gratefully received - I still have contact with the other guys who lived there.

does the date match up to when you/them last moved out? check with them when the last payment was and how much. When this happened to me I asked the landlord to give the company the girls details of who owed the money and they left me alone as I proved id paid my share.
