Wilko's Cherry Tree

Lol @ DaftyDuck
so January I will look at:
Aldi / Lidl / Morrisons
I'm a fan of Morrisons because they have a cafe, and for about £11 you can have a nighttime 2 course meal for 3 people with drinks included... well... maybe exaggerating a little, but their food is surprisingly really really nice for the price!
I usually look forward to new growing seasons... but... I'm already looking forward to the new January!! Cherry trees! Yey!0 -
Wilkinson's have got pot grown dwarf fruit trees (including cherries) in store at the moment. They're a bit more expensive at £16 though and they don't say what varieties they are which is a bit annoying!0

I bought some of the Lidl bare rooted trees as soon as they came out, heeled them in and then sat out the winter snows before finally planting them a few weeks ago. They're now romping away, at least as well as the somewhat pricier Victoria plum tree I bought from one of the big mail order catalogues! (This last being bought with a coupon or three so it didn't actually cost me any more, you understand...;) ) Anyway, the one cherry tree has already put out leaves and some buds and this is in Scotland, so I'm assumuing any grown further south should be in blossom by now.
TBH I think the cheaper fruit trees from the High St shops do just as well as the nursery bare rooted ones given the correct care. Buy them as soon as they appear, so they don't sit around in the warm shop and start breaking dormancy. Heel them in if the weather isn't suitable for planting, then plant well, use a stake and some good long term feed and you should be fine.Val.0
