Wilko's Cherry Tree
Comments

Your cherry tree should have had blossom on it by now if it was alive, and the leaves should just be popping out. Break off the tip of one of the branches; if it snaps off and looks brown then it's probably dead. If the inside is green then it might be just delayed, but if there are no signs of life by now then I think it's probably not survived. When people show you who they are, believe them the first time0

Thank you so much for replying! :-)
I've already snapped some bits off, it's a cream colour inside...
Does that mean there's hope?
I guess if I want a cherry tree, I should go out and buy a proper one (not a cheap one for a random place!)
(Darn it, mother was right again!)
Thanks again0 -
I had one from Wilko's and one from the council horticultural centre and they both died. I had planted them in the ground. Friends then gave me two from Morrisons which I planted in huge pots as by then I had other trees where the cherries had been and they've done well. I got them last year and they've had lots of blossom this year so I'm hoping for a few cherries.:pI was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

Darn...
when would you recommend for me to buy one?
Thanks again!0 -
Bare rooted trees are normally around at the back end of winter, Jan, Feb and going into March, as they are dormant then. These are the cheapest to buy - usually around a fiver in lidl, aldi etc. You can buy potted trees at any time from Garden centers or online but these always cost quite a bit more.I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

our council has replanted all the chopped down beech trees with cherry trees, i dont know where they get them from but they are all growing lovely! I know aldi etc sell them, wilkos plants always seem to be uncared for in our local one:(***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0

Aldi/Lidl do fine cherry (and plum apple pear peach) bare-root plants in February every year. They are cheap (£3:99), but I've never had a failure from the 20+ I've bought... no, not all in this garden; I've moved recently, but I do have ..oh.. just counted out the window... I have 17 various trees from them here ... I did buy lots, didn't I. Last year & this year all grew (exceptin one pear which I shoved in a pot & forgot while I went away... dehydrated, but 100% my fault). They are on various rooting stock, apparently, but some (pear & apple) appear to be on medium-sized rootstock. Ignore that, if it isn't meaningful!0
