HFO Harassment

I too have just started to receive phone calls from HFO. They have recently purchased an old Barclaycard debt from about 4 years ago, which I though had been paid off. I have had no correspondence from anyone for at least three years, possibly longer and then suddenly I have received two threatening letters from HFO. The only phone number they have for me is my work number and they have started to call me at work, which is really embarrassing. I haven't given this number and wasn't with this employer when I was with Barclaycard so I have no idea how they even got it.
One of my colleagues is screening my calls from them as I really don't want to talk to them at work or at all and I'm not prepared to give them another phone number. However now that I am not available they have started to ask to be put through to my manager.
Can they do this? Surely this has to be a breach of data protection to speak to my boss about a private and confidential matter?
After reading the many HFO horror stories I really don't want to deal with them, any suggestions?

The only way to stop the calls is to deal with HFO.
I would start by responding to the letters they have sent by sending a prove it letter to them - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=11570893&postcount=2
you might also want to add in the letter about ceasing all telephone calls to you - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=11571485&postcount=4
Unless they were actually put through to a manager and hey did disclose details of your debts then it wouldn't be against the DPA, it might be that all they would have asked the manager is when would be a good time to contact you etc.
Once you have sent the prove it letter if they do send details of a debt which has been paid hopefully you will be able to prove that it was paid off? from payments on your bank account or a statement showing a nil balance or something?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I received a nice letter from these people saying they now own my debt and with detailed figures of how much i will have to pay
if they took me to court.
Strange from what i have read on here it would be them that had to pay that. Then try and claim the money back from me.
I doubt i will live anywhere near long enough to pay them back the court fees, Nevermind any of the original debt.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
