I'm sure most of us have seen the coupon now. According to this story from BBC News the offer "could hit profit margins".
Advice from a MSE perspective: Sell your Threshers shares and use the money to buy wine
OK, it's short-term gratification but isn't that always the best sort?

Hmm I definitely think that Martin should look in to the "secret sales" and "viral marketing" your link mentions. Earlier today we had news of a "sale" at Comet, but the price differences to regular prices were sometimes in pence.
These type of things could easily lead someone down a garden path thinking that they are getting a bargain when in fact they are just rushing to spend the same amount of money without the sale. Although 40% off booze is not bad at all. Hic.0 -
Many years ago I worked for a certain electrical chain that sounds like a shooting star
and in the 4 weeks to Christmas the prices on most popular products would creep up bit by bit each week.
This was partly because in the run up to Christmas people were more willing to just buy something without shopping around and partly so that come January the same items could be reduced in price in the sale... back to the price they were in November and they could trumpet a discount!
Not sure this is the same now given the competition online.0 -
the threshers discount cancels out the long standing 3 for 2 offer. this is effectively worth 33.3%, making the voucher worth just 6.6% (though it allows you to be more flexible about deciding what to buy.)
They wont be in any trouble with it, especially since they increased their margins so healthily before launching the permanent 3 for 2 offer early last year.0 -
Considering that they offer 33% discount normally on the 3 for 2 then this shouldnt impact too much - it will increase all their sales though.
My OH was just talking to a friend who manages one of these shops - she advised to download asap.0 -
I suppose the other side of the coin is that, if they can make a profit at 40% discount, this is a wonderful piece of publicity! Can I help?0

I worked for that shower for 26 years and when they hiked the prices for the 3 for 2 deal they struck deals to improve the margins on the wines from suppliers who wanted to take part. if they said no, they were binned.
they can take the hit as the single bottle price has proibably been increased to protect their profits.
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -
on three bottles the voucher cancels the discount out saving at best one quid, im still waiting for one person to come on msn and say they have bought a load and saved a fortune,0
