Statute Barred Confusion!

Mum-2-Be
I am in Scotland and am trying to firgure out when the 2 following debts are statute barred but Im getting mixed up.
Clydesdale
Started: 08/05/2006
Defaulted: 29/02/2008
The credit report shows 8 which means at least 6 payments missed before default was registered.
Bank of Scotland
Started: 14/09/2006
Defaulted: 15/05/2009
Also shows 8.
Do you take the statute barred time from the default date?
These are 2 debts my boyfriend has and he cant remember when the last payments were actually made, is there any way for him to find out?

You shouldn't use the default date - as its possible that payments were made after that date.
It really should be 5years from the date of last payment or last written acknowledgement from boyfriend. Does he not have bank statements dating back to that time where he could find out?
Its possible that they could have registered a default as little as 2-3months after his last payment (or its also possible he paid since the default). The status of 8 does not necessarily mean mean 6missed payments before the default.
It looks like there may be quite a number of years to go before these become statute barred, in which case its possible that the creditor/debt collector won't let them go statute barred and that they would take court action before then (obviously they might not but creditors do seem to be getting better at not allowing debts to go SB now)
If he is absolutely certain he made no payments after the default then he could work from the default date, but obviously that would be 2years on the first debt and 3 of the latter which is a long time to avoid creditors.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
