Conflict on interest within potential interview

Hi all

Basically my post was up for redundancy - there's two of us and they are keeping one within the position.
Someone within the wider team has now gone for Voluntary Redundancy and so one of us can potentially fill this place - FINALLY SOME GOOD NEWS!!

The process they are taking for this newly opened position is to interview. However, i believe there may be a conflict of interest as the hiring manager is the other person's line manager. The other interviewer in the team manager who i would assume would be very impartial.
Is it worth saying something?? or is there nothing to worry about??

Thanks for your help xxxx

how big is the company, if its not very big then there is not alot you could do, if it is larger then it probably is worth mentioning it to the person interviewing who you deem impartial
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

I personally wouldn't worry about it.

It's not necessarily a good thing - they know the good *and* the bad about the person. There are always going to be situations where someone is interviewed by their line manager, and as long as there is an impartial person there, I wouldn't be concerned. I also wouldn't assume that the manager can't make an objective decision - saying something could imply you don't trust the line manager to do their job properly.

The only time I'd be concerned is if I really wanted the job but knew this manager wanted the other person in the job - but that depends whether you want your current role or the wider team one!

    Best of luck!
