apparently they are sending a pack in the post with all the details, I'll have a look at that then give them a ring to see if I can up my payments a bit. I just don't want to risk cutting corners to close though, that's partly what got me in this mess in the first place IYKWIM

LOL about the dumb day, that's every day for me :D

  • If you are on state benifit and live in a council house, have you looked into bankruptcy. You will get a discount off the £495 fees and if you don't own anything of any value it maybe your best option. You do need to think carefully if it is the right option for you. If however you are not likely to want credit for the next 6 years or so and if wouldn't effect you future employment the you have nothing to loose. Head over to the bankruptcy supporters club on this forum and there you will find all the advise and support you need.

just one thing, you won't be allowed to have Sky, it is considered a luxury.
but on the upside you can loose £13.50 in your food bill.

Get CCCS or Payplan to tell you what the maximum allowance you are allowed for your family for food, I was quiet suprised to find we were allowed £400 pcm and I only put down £250, so I was told to revise it to £400 and the banks couldn't question it because these allowances are set in the Banking Code of Practice (or something like that).

The extra will allow you to budget for the unexpected, or things like Sky/Broadband (internet is also considered a luxury by the banks as well).

Thanks for that, I can see where you are coming from but I think I would rather at least try and pay back what I owe. I can completely understand people who owe 10's and 100's of thousands needing to go bankrupt but I feel as though what I owe, while a heck of a lot, is still within the realms of possibility for me to pay back, as long as I have a bit of help from cccs organising things. It will take a long time I know, but I'm hoping that my situation won't always be like this, once my son is better I am going to go back to college and then get a job so I will be able to pay it all off sooner.

My sky is still under contract until june 07, my ex used to pay for it for the kids but he had to stop because his income dropped, so when I phoned up to cancel it I stupidly let them talk me into getting a discount as long as I signed up for another 12 months. That's why I haven't already got rid of it....it would cost me about £350 to get out of the contract  Great tip about maximising all the allowances though, I think it's a bit too late for me because I've already sent off for my cccs pack. One thing I'm lucky I don't have to pay for is my internet connection, the kids dad pays for that still and says he always will because dd uses the internet a lot for homework (yes really she does do homework on it, in between chatting to friends on msn, playing online rpg, visiting itunes....you get the picture LOL)

AFAIK Sky comes under entertainment & is not considered unreasonable when there are kids.

Gosh your son is very lucky to be growing up in a home with such a sense of responsibility and morality - this is one of my favourite posts I've seen someone on their way up with an attitude that will get them there. Good luck.

    *blush* thank you.

I could just kick myself for getting myself in this mess in the first place though. It's partly due to my circumstances and a lot of bad luck but mainly due to my own stupidity.

My dd (who's 13) has already said she isn't ever going to have a credit card, I really hope she sticks to that.
