Why?

In the end, it's not your debt. Full stop. They can't make you pay a debt that isn't yours.

No amount of bullwarks in any reply they could come up with could do that.

It's just a question of getting rid of these parasites in the most efficient manner.

Thanks fermi its mad I know. I KNOW Im in the right its not like Im trying to negotiate with them or anything.

Finally got confirmation today that my 'account' has been closed.

They say the debt is in the name of someone same as mine, they say the didnt get a reply to mail sent to the persons address and checked via Equifax and were given my name and address. is this how Equifax work??

That's all very dubious. Please report them to the OFT using the link Fermi provided earlier. You haven't said who they are but they sound like a company that ought to be investigated, and hopefully have their licence revoked.

Your residence was identified to Wescot as a possible forwarding address for our account holder. This information was provided by Equifax, a Credit Reference Agency, who provides tracing data to Wescot.

Hello All,

Having an issue. I have debt collectors knocking my door. looking for a guy that I've never met and I far as I know has not lived here.

He is Gareth Jones.. I am G Jones also. first name and middle names don't match. for four years I've had debt collectors letter sent here and one or two collectors have called. I either send things back with "Unknown Here" or tell them I am not the person they are looking for and send them packing.

Now these companies not changed the details and have sold details and the debt on to other companies.

This is lazy.. and I do sure hope it's illegal.

I have a business, but nothing has been aimed at that. However today I recieved an email to my Business account saying this:

Private & Confidential - For Attention of MR Gareth Jones.

We have been supplied this e-mail address to contact MR Gareth Jones.

If you are this person, please respond via telephone to 08444115751 quoting reference number M***** whereupon further detailed information can be provided.

We look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

I am not him.. I have told these B*stards so, but they continue to harrass.

Now they have my e-mail. Easy to get I am a luthier so my address and my e-mail and home number go hand in hand.

My question is how do I stop it ?

Ive had 4 years of this and 9 different companies contact me. but it's only Mackenziehall that has e-mailed me via work.

Many of you will say change your e-mail but that wont work. If I change it they can find it.

I need them to stop. stern letters quoting ICO or OFT doesnt work.

Need help folks.

If you can get the FOS to write to them with a letter of complaint then that might possibly make them take notice?

Reason being is a full complaint via the FOS would cost MH £500.

Now these ejits will ignore complaints when it costs them nothing to do so, but the prospect of them getting stung themselves for £500 might just make them take notice.
