Reducing Work Hours - Help to calculate salary difference

Hello,

Im hoping someone who is good at payroll calculations can help me out.

I am off work at the moment with stress, really struggling with job, work life balance everything.

I have decided to go in and speak to my employer about returning to work but I would like to do so on a different working agreement.

I currently work a 36.5 hour week over 5 days I want to reduce my working week by 1 day so 7hr 15 mins per week less (4 days on 3 off)

Firstly i need to weigh this up in full to see what difference this will make to me financially how do i do this without having to ask employer, obviously i will earn less each month but also pension contribution will reduce and Tax and NI.

If I give you some figures could someone please help me calcuate this so i can do a comparision?

Also would really lvoe advice if anyone has asked to do something similar, im worried about how to apporach subject.

My salary is currently £20,050 annually before any reductions.
I have a employer contribtion pension and I pay 7% of my monthly salary to that.
I work 36.5 hours per week.
My tax code is 747L

so based on this info can someone tell me what my money situ wouyld be if hours reduced to 29.5 hours

thanks in advanced for any help you can give!
if you need anymore info to calcuate just let me know.

thanks again

    36.5 hrs?
Funny hours. That is 7 hrs 20 min per day... Are all days the same number of hours? Just checking, as at our company there is short Friday for example...

Working on the assumptions that every day is the same working hours and the week has 36.5 hrs...
Your net pay is about £1239.53 now, is that correct?

Going dow to 4 days will mean you get £16040 pa.
That would come to net £1031.01.

Based on 7.30 hrs per day, 30 hrs week - £16480 (gross) pa, £1053.89 net pcm
Based on 8 hrs per day, 32 hrs week - £17579 pa, £1111.04 net pcm.

Also don't forget you will only get proportion of your holidays... and if you will be off on bank holidays it won't be as straight forward as how many actual days holiday you have... (depending on wording of your contract..)

any tips on how to approach my employer, I have a meeting tomorrow morning regarding going back in and wanted to bring it up then to get things moving asap. Should I draft a short proposal why i want to change etc how i will try to not effect service etc

Are you sure that reducing the days but increasing the hours is going to help with your stress problems?

I think you are right to suggest it and show how it WON'T affect the running of the business, don't say you hope it won't because that makes it negative.

You will have to explain how doing just over 4 hours less a week will not affect the company as it is unlikely I would have thought they would hire someone else (which creates business costs in its own right) yet other members of staff might have to fill the void.....ideall you would want another member of staff who does the job you do that wants to work an extra 4 hours a week.
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
