Thanks CH, you were fab when i first posted and gave me some brilliant support, so thanks for that.
I am taking the kids to the park today while i practiceputting our tent up (have never done it before), so that will get us out and about for a couple of hours and get the kids doing things and running about too.

Just need to suck it up!!

Think of the life you will have when you are debt free.

Now the bulk of the school holidays are coming up try factoring in a small amount for day sout etc.

Remember to check for vouchers & free things to do.

  • As you live near Dartmoor you may (or may not) live near me. I love spending time on the moor, but often think the cost of getting there is a bit prohibitive. However, I think kids like to see the wild ponies and the sheeps and cattle wandering around. Perhaps if your kids like to draw you could have an 'art class'.

When my nieces came down to visit last year we took them to the beach (cheap day out we thought, icecream each, bucket and spade £1 in asda). When we got to the beach we found our local council (Torbay) had 'play rangers' on the beach who would entertain the kids and there was all sorts of activities for them and a huge range of activities. I moan long and loud about the inefficiency of the council but I was impressed with this!

Even if you don't live on the coast, a day trip on the train (or the bus) isn't a huge amount of money and you can spend the day exploring a new place. I also took the girls rockpooling, although I have to say their mum and i (26 & 27) were far more interested in what we might see than they were.

Also, is there any other mums/children that you and your kids are friendly with? A day out in the park is a lot more fun in a group. There's a lot of fun to be had up on Haldon Hill if you're anywhere near.

The other thing may be volunteering? When i was at school we went on a trip to south wales (for kids from inner london, it was eye opening) and one of the activities we had was joining a group who were litter picking on a local beach. Sounds dull, but was a lot of fun and when the beach was clear (it was a little cove) we had a small fire and toasted marshmellows etc. We also had a 'sculpture' competition. Who could make the best sandcastle out of things found on the beach. A lot of people did very elaborate things. My partner and I cheated - we drew ours in damp sand.

I also saw in the weekly update today loads of 2-4-1 vouchers etc for days out, so always worth a look

    Hi All,

I just wanted to come back on and say hi, and to tell you all that i am still sticking at it!!
I am finding other ways of enjoying myself that doesnt involve spending money (i must know ALL the fre parking places near the beach now, lol) and am trying to MAKE more money to clear my debts off.

The uni that i am at pays you £4 for doing a 30 minute experiment in their psych labs- may not seem much, but i am doing as many as poss now i have finished my exams so that i can put it in a pot and use it to put towards my debt. I am doing 2 a week at the moment as the need for participants isnt too big, which, over 4 weeks, makes an extra £32. Every penny counts!

Can the children help you to cook?
Making Pizza can be fun and is quite cheap. You can make the pizza, hire a video from your local Library, and then eat the pizza whist watching the video.

    Has anyone tried geocaching

I am pretty sure you don't need a specialist GPS receiver and can use your mobile phone if it has GPS. I haven't tried it myself but it looks like good cheap fun for the family
