Does anybody know whether the bank will accept a copy of a certified copy? With so many people to inform and as it costs £3 per certified copy, I wonder whether it is acceptable to take copies of a certified copy. The other option is to do a couple at a time as I am sure the certified copy of the marriage certificate is returned back. Thanks

Photo copies are fine for most, a few will ask for the original but banks and such are fine with a photocopy0

I took ours into most places (banks, building society etc) but DVLA, Passport Office & life insurance / pension companies want the real thing or a certified copy.0

Some banks will just photo copy the marriage certificate and give it you back if you can do that in person.cross stitch cafe #90 UFO's 6 to finish in 2013, and loads of new kits to boot

A bank can make a certified copy themselves! Take the certificate with you and they can copy it themselves and stamp it.No longer ...tobe! Married 20/06/13MFW 2021 #117 £5415.40/£6000MFW 2022 #77 £3740/£3000MFW 2023 #82 £0/£30000

This is proving not to be easy, different financial organizations specify professionals who can certify. I thought an accountant would do but one financial firm specify solicitor, stockbrokers or people working in the bank.0

But only for their own use.....that is what each organisation that you send the original does.0 -
I've only got my original - I have taken it into most places (banks, credit union, solicitor etc). They are happy so long as they have seen an original or registered copy and usually will take a photocopy of the original for their records.
I've had to post it registered to places such as DVLA office, though I did not like letting it out of my sight. But they do send it back. I would not expect ANYONE to keep my certificate or registered copy.
Passport I did in advance and sent off a form signed by the registrar so I had passport in my new name in advance of the wedding (THAT was weird)
Most places don't need to see it (Gas, electric, etc etc) but my insurance company insisted. I've not sent it to them - they didn't need any ID to set it up, so I don't see why they need ID to change it. I just waited til the renewal date and went with someone else. (Probably not something that's advisable, just in case it invalidates your insurance)
One great piece of advice is that whether you do the changing before or after, make sure that any honeymoon flight bookings are in the same name as your passport will be at the time. Anything else can be sorted, but this being wrong could potentially result in a cancelled holiday.
Good Luck!

I'm only going to get one copy, and that the translated into English one. You don't need lots of copies.
On my practice marriage i took the original into the bank with me and they copied it, i then posted it to the DVLA and they sent it back and then i posted it to the passport office and they sent it back. I then rolled it up and put it in my silver case thing and didn't get it out again until i sent it to my solicitor for the divorce - never saw it again.
You really don't need lots of copies.saving up another deposit as we've lost all our equity.

And the OP was asking if the bank would accept a certified copy, perfect that they can do their own then!No longer ...tobe! Married 20/06/13MFW 2021 #117 £5415.40/£6000MFW 2022 #77 £3740/£3000MFW 2023 #82 £0/£30000 -
Guys please note:
You are authorised to reproduce the layout of the form in any format including on the
web, in films and in print. This authorisation is subject to the following conditions:
That you must not use reproductions of certificates to provide evidence of birth,
death, marriage or civil partnership. Where a copy is required to provide
evidence that an event was registered you must order an official certificate
(’extract’ in Scotland) from a local registration office or General Register Office
You cant photocopy a crown document to provide as evidence. this was taken from http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documents/copying-bmd-certificates.pdf
I had a check because I work in financial services and was reasonably sure its illegal to photocopy crown documents, so its not illegal but you cannot use them as evidence.
