credit report information

Have looked at my credit report and no wonder I have only ever been offered expensive credit! Have two ccj's which have been paid 2001, but not recorded as such.I ccj which I don't know what it is for but could be a water bill which is now being repaid by payment plan and is about half of the original balance. How do I get these removed or at least recorded as paid or being paid? Do I have to contact the court, if so how (letter/phone) and will it cost me to get this sorted?

Once the CCJ is paid I believe you have to contact the court and apply for a certificate of satisfaction. This costs about £15 I think. The contact details should be on the last page of your credit report. By phone is usually ok as I've found them quite helpful in the past. They may then request that you send a letter.
  • As the two that are satisfied finish in a couple of months will they drop off my record even if they are not shown as satisfied(trying to save myself £30 here)? Also the one that is not satisfied yet shows over £3k and no payments made whereas there is less than half still owing and regular payments over last 18 months, would like to make things look better in the event of a credit check, can I?

  • CCJ’s will naturally expire from a credit file 6 years from the date of the original order, (satisfied or not) however if a current payment plan is in place and a balance remains outstanding the data can be re-entered until such time as the balance is fully settled. (although in practice this is very rare)

If an order has been made in excess of six years ago and no payment or admission has been made then it would also naturally expire from your file after 6 years and the original claimant would need to return to court to enforce collection.
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them
  • what about all the other records for debts being paid, once they are paid do they disappear from the credit report?

  • All active accounts which have been "satisfied" will remain on your credit file for 6 years from the date of satisfaction.

If the account was defaulted then it will only remain for a further 6 Years from the date of Default, regardless of when it was satisfied (or not), although if you do satisfy it within this time frame it will be marked as such on your file, and will therefore have a slightly less negitive impact on any "credit score"
