What's this all about?
If you've friends or family in Poland and have a broadband connection then it's possible to speak to them for free this weekend if you've the right equipment. Internet telephony operator Skype is offering free web to landline phone calls on 9 and 10 December. If you haven't a clue what I'm going on about then read my Completely Free Calls Worldwide Via Your PC article for all the info.
So what do you need to do to call?
First make sure you have a headset or internet phone to plug into your PC. Sign up to Skype* and download the software. Once you've done that click on the ’Free calls to Poland’ banner and read the instructions. Participants will automatically be able to call landlines in Poland ONLY for free during the promotional period, without any cost involved.
What are the rules?
This offer is only to landline phones in Poland (not mobile phones or premium rate numbers) and is available between 00:01 (Central European Time) on Saturday 9 December and 23:59 on Sunday 10 December.
There's no limit to the number of calls you make or how long you spend on the phone.

* Using these links helps the site stay ad-free and free to use, as they’re ‘affiliated links’ which invisibly take you via commercial price comparison services like Moneysupermarket or Find, which then pay this site per click. You shouldn’t notice any difference, the links don’t impact the product at all and the editorial line (the things I write) is NEVER impacted by the revenue. If it isn’t possible to get an affiliate link for the best product, it is still recommended and still included. For the sake of transparency go to skype.com for an unaffiliated link. Is there anyone interested in making a call to Poland on the Dec 9-10th?
Maybe you have family over there?
Well Skype are now offering you the chance to call for free.
[Please note that the offer runs for that weekend during Central European Times (CET)].Skype, the global Internet communications company, together with Onet, the leading Polish web portal, are bringing Polish communities together across the UK. On 9th-10th December, Poles living in the UK can call their friends and relatives living back home for free. Whether it’s speaking to your future husband following Andrezejki or calling your grandmother for the secret to her Babka bread, your loved ones are just a call away.
With an estimated 750,000 Poles currently living in the UK and up to 200,000 Poles living in Ireland, Polish communities represent a significant part of the UK’s expatriate population.
The free calling weekend to Polish landlines runs for 48 hours from 12:01 a.m. CET Saturday, 9th December through Sunday, 10th December at midnight CET.
To find out more information (in Polish) about Skype, simply visit http://www.skype.com/go/polski.
This offer reminds me of another post for those calling (the UK) from Spain on the 2nd-3rd Dec ... click me
(For those who don't know, Skype is a pc/internet-based phone system)Thanks Sams Face Painting www.SamsFacePainting.com SamsFacePainting.com0 -

The start up costs of skype are high. Talk Talk international 3 option includes talking to Poland for free - permanently.
Unfortunately, I cannot have talk talk at home because I need two phone numbers on one line for my home office to function. My wife calls Poland using an Orchid electronics dialler routing my calls over 18166 ( I think) for 5p connection charge and 1p per minute.
The initial cost of additional hardware may not be re-couped as telephone charges continue to tumble.
My brother-in-law (one of the 1000s of Polish Truck Drivers working for UK firms) buys pre-paid cards with a long access code and pays 1p per minute from public phone boxes.0 -
I found the least hassle way to call is through access numbers posted on international callchecker. 0.5 p to Poland calls are offered by several providers, and calls to mobiles are from 5p.0

If someone knows anyone in Poland can I have their number so I can phone them for free?

Euphony EU Talk plus 18 which MSE recommends in his phone article includes unlimited 24/7 calls to the UK and 26 other intl destinations one of which is Poland. This service can be used in conjunction with a BT line and BT Callsign.
Its a 18 month contract but over that period it works out at less then a £1 a week.
