laser hair removal

I am looking from advice from, ideally, someone who does laser hair removal, or, if not, people who have had laser hair removal.

A few months ago I went to SK:N for hair removal on top lip and chin.
I was persuaded to pay for eight sessions as I was told I would need that many and it was the cheapest way to do it.
After two sessions there was no hair on upper lip and just a couple of recalcitrant ones on chin. Have had two more sessions and now just one hair on chin.
There are three therapists - two of them said I should just use the spare sessions elsewhere on the body or keep them until or unless hair came back.
However the third girl who I only met last time (and who was older and I would say more experienced) got almost upset/evangelical - she said, please, please use all the sessions otherwise the hair will grow back again after a while eg 6 months. I have asked her for some evidence that 8 sessions are needed on any part of the body and she said that the head of the clinic nationwide was an expert who had written lots of papers and she would email me some references
So far no references - I have read however that upper lip hair not very deep and goes more easily whereas chin hair is very hard to get rid of. So a standard package of the same no of sessions for each problem based on this is maybe not right anyway.
I feel that I have to trust the clinic but their prices are high and they extol their standards so I do expect their treatments to be entirely evidence based and all the therapists to sing from the same hymnsheet.
I dont need anything else done (am in my sixties and have little body hair elsewhere now) but I can't ask for money back if I dont need all the treatments as it was done on tesco tokens - a lot - it was about £600 worth.
Would love to hear peoples experience - how many sessions and whether hair grew back.

  • They are right, you need at least 8. I actually needed 12. Your hair will grow back if you don't.

I'm still having laser done, so I can't comment on how many you need, but I pay as you go for my sessions. Ultimately, it will work out more expensive, but it means I'm not paying for sessions I don't need. Plus, I can't afford to pay in a lump sum.

BUT how does anyone know how many sessions you need? Obviously if the hair is coming back by the time you go the month round then you need a session but if its not???

is there a time limit on your sessions? If not, only make an appointment when you observe some hair regrowth.

is that the best thing to do? With electrolysis you have to treat on a regular cycle to get the hair at a particular stage of regrowth and that seems to be the approach SK:n take ie have a session monthly - or at least the last girl I had took that approach.

I am getting a bit annoyed about evidence based info and think I might drop an email to one of the head honchos

The whole point of multiple sessions is that you need to get hair in the right growth phase. 2 or 3 sessions will not be enough to have got all of them and they WILL grow back.

I've been looking into LHR for some time. My beautician (who I use for waxing) said that each hair folicle has a cycle of 12 weeks.

I'm waiting to go to SK:N for my consultation for bikini line and underarm. I'll not be getting them both done just now but can't decide which one to get done first

I would go for bikini line so nice to get this more delicate area done and out of the way
They have a special offer at the moment I belieive, I had an email from them earlier today
You are too far away from London or one of the other big cities to take advantage of a Groupon offer? They come up so regularly for laser and should be fine if you pick a salon carefully

Such a shame it only works on dark hair :(
