Mortgage credit search

I have been checking through our credit file and according to the Nationwide I applied for a mortgage with them on the 14/04, 21/04 and 21/08 they carried out searches. However I did apply on the 14/04 but dispute the other two. I querid these through the credit reference agency and Nationwide confirm that the one on the 21/04 was in error but stand by the search on the 21/08 and are refusing to delete this entry. I know this is totally incorrect can anyone suggest what course of action I can now take.
Thanks,
Mrs Angry

HI Mrs Angry
were you declined by nationwide? Did you use a broker or more than one broker? are you sure it wasnt the broker credit checking you via an agreement in principle electronically as that would show up as nationwide?
Why are you angry about the credit searches? are you struggling to get a mortgage elsewhere? Nationwide are particulary stringent with their scoring process.I am a Mortgage Adviser

I originally applied to Nationwide on the 14.4 and was accepted. Also I did not go through a broker. However I am in the process of tidying up my credit file and this is one thing I have noticed. We already have a mortgage with them its just the fact they carried out credit search on the 21.08 without my permission. In the end we decided to stay put and have not contacted since the agreement in principle was granted on the 14.04.0 -
I can understand two credit checks, AIP and completion but not three. I would suggest you put your grievances in writing to Nationwide and ask for a written explanation as to why checked three times - I agree with you its not on and it does affect your credit rating - anyone and everyone who works in this industry is aware of this fact so I can only imagine that perhaps the checks have been done by three different people. also, I am wondering if they have recredit checked you to try and offer you other products and services but whatever the reason, its a bit out of order IMOI am a Mortgage Adviser

I have today contacted Nationwide and spoke to a sales advisor who in turn discussed it with her manager. They confirm that there has been no contact between myself and Nationwide since the 20.4.06. They were extremley helpful and are going to speak to the dept who investigate credit searches.
The advisor has agreed to phone me on Monday 4.12 and will post any further information on this board. Hopefully it may help others who have experienced a similar situation.0 -
After complaining to Nationwide about this erroneous credit search they have now decided to delete the one on the 21.o8. In fact that is two they have carried out without my permission. However I am still not satisfied and still am awaiting an explanation on how this has happened0

Yes both have now been deleted. The only one remaining is the correct one on the 14.4.0
