Student in distress

Hello
I've been reading the forums for quite some time now and just had to register today to share my concern and hopefully receive a few good tips.
I'm a student based in London, living by my self with no financial support from my parents. I was employed some time back but the employment being temporary, I was sent home after Christmas. Ever since then, I have been unemployed and my search for work has not done me any good.
I'm an international student and everything was just fine till my parents were struck by financial crisis. In such a time, I do not wish to exert pressure on them and wish to do something by my self and as such I have never asked them for a single pence but times are getting real hard and I am running out of money real fast. In fact, in 1-2 months time, I may not have any money at all.
I would be highly obliged if someone could point me in the right direction on where to look for work. Since I'm on a student visa, my work entitlement is restricted to 20 hours/week till until the mid of June when I'm done with my exam. After that, I will be entitled to work as much as I desire.
My course will end in August and I do not have any long term plans of staying in the country and so I do not wish to make any investments in security licenses or anything of the sort.
Please help me out with this issue as it is the only thing I keep on thinking about and has been adversely effecting my education.
Best regards.

Most of the students at my university get jobs in places like bars, shops, restaurants etc (you may also find the university has jobs, but possibly not at this time of year).0

Please contact your mum and dad if you cant find work, they will be distressed if you didnt turn to them first for help.
I have had this with a child where they didnt want to ask and they ended up in a really bad place. And I really felt that I wished
they had come to me for help, it upset me that they didnt.
Look for some work by all means, bars, restaurants, garages, etc. But do let your mum and dad know your circumstances.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
If you haven't already, sign up to your university's JobShop. It's a great place to find jobs which suit students and at this time of year departments are often looking for guides for prospective students.
As well as bars and shops, speak to tourist sites to see if they need guides/translators.
Speak to the university's student support to see if there's any help they can give you.0 -
@tehone
Unfortunately, I'm a student of a professional body and my university is more of a tuition provider rather than someone I will get my degree from and as such they don't have any proper departments or anything of the sort.
@McKneff
I wish I could but the fact that they'll be upset and trying to make ends meet really puts me off. I've been a spoiled son all my life and have always had the nicest toys and anything else I could ask for but in times like these, I don't want to put pressure on them. I've been consistently trying to get work by applying in stores and on Gumtree, too, but to no avail
@MrsManda
Like I said above, not a proper departmental university0 -

Are you registered as a student? - student card, access to the library etc...?
What is the professional body? can they help?0 -
@MrsManda
Yes, I have a student card and access to the library. The professional body is the association of chartered certified accountants; I believe they can not help.0 -
Tourism will be hiring for the summer season, starting about now/Easter. Ice cream sellers, ticket sellers, extra waiting staff, extra staff all round. Between January and March are probably quiet months for a lot of shops/trades, but now the summer's coming look at places that tourists go. Boating lakes? Places selling food? Even if you tried them a month ago, it's different now.0

OP, places like bars, pubs may advertise in the window or with a board outside the premises, retailers tend to advertise online so shops like sainsburys, asda, go to they're respective website and look for jobs or recruitment on the front page0

It sounds like there is no reason why you cannot join the JobShop at your university.
Have you asked the association or are you just presuming they won't help? - you've got nothing to lose in asking.0 -
I am pleased to inform everyone in here that I have been offered a job at Waitrose. They were hiring only 8 people out of the 244 that had applied for jobs. Luckily, I was one of the lucky few
I'll only be working 10.5 hours a week but something is better than nothing. At least it'll get my travel and accommodation costs out of the way.
I am very thankful to everyone in here for their kind support and their interest in my problem. You guys gave me a push when I needed it most.
Thank you0
