Have they got bikes as a bike ride was always popular with mine when they were younger.

They enjoyed gardening but liked to clear an area so instant results were wanted.

Cooking is a good option but make them wash up afterwards!!

Local museums are often free and part of them are generally interesting.

Going to the local park with a ball and bat to play football or cricket. Mine used to play on the road. A quiet lane or hours.

If you are persuaded as a special treat to go to cinema certain days are generally cheaper or use vouchers.

Four DGS helped clean my car this morning and I took them to the Riverside Country park this afternoon. We spotted some wild rabbits ,some frogs in the wildlife pond plus a watersnake and lots of tadpoles.Eldest DGS stayed at home to get his fishing gear ready for tomorrow and I took the three smaller ones out.We all enjoyed the stroll around the park and watching the different birds down there I gave a sweetie to see who could spot as many different kinds of birds there and then we all had an ice cream from the tiny shop there .Didn't cost a lot and the boys went home worn out after all the walking around we did (so did I :):) )

Today was a day spent at home doing chores and the kids were really good. They got stuck in. We washed the car, mowed and strimmed the lawn. We also made chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing. I was short of icing sugar so instead of running to the shop to get more, I adapted the recipe down and made less icing. There was still more than enough.

Also had a major achievement. I needed to get my specs adjusted in Asd* opticians which is in the middle if the store! We went in, got the glasses sorted and then we left without parting with a penny, despite the word chocolate being chanted by the kids!! That's big for me. Usually I cave in.

Thank you everyone for all of the amazing suggestions. I have more than enough ideas to keep us occupied.
