How much do you owe on credit cards, what are the interest rates?

Same for the personal loan, and how many payments left?

But anyway.. first thoughts here....

Let's see...

mobile phones - PAYG or contract? how many? can you drop a tariff?

cleaning products/cleaner - at £5 I'll assume this isn't an actual cleaner LOL, but what cleaning products does this include?

household/garden maintenance - nothing? at all?

electricity - is this accurate? and no oil or gas?

council tax - is this over 10 months or 12 months? if 10, ring them and see if you can get it to 12, otherwise make sure to take the full £226 and put into savings those 2 months you're not paying it for household emergencies (such as washer breaking down, etc)

contents/home insurance - both if mortgage, contents if renting. this really should be in your budget

life insurance - also should (IMO) be in your budget, you can get decent term life insurance for a fiver each for the adults

food/household shopping - depends on how many in household, but typical family of 4 probably could get by on £200 per month, barring any specific medical diets

petrol/parking - is this accurate? just verifying.. is very low, which is great, if accurate LOL

car tax/car ins/car maint - if you are barely using car, is it even a necessity to have? would save you £160 per month.

breakdown cover - £30 per month??? you can get this for roughly £40 per year!! check online through quidco for good deals

school meals - pack lunches, much cheaper!

laundry/dry cleaning - is this actually dry cleaning? is it necessary? if it's laundry, why is it separate from cleaning products? can you break that down a bit?

sat/digital tv - is this in a package with phone/internet? is it the best deal you can get? is it absolutely necessary? (and not criticising here, because for us that IS our entertainment LOL)

eating out - can this be cut? we've cut back to one takeaway a month at the local chippy for a tenner a month, and it comes out of our grocery budget, so that we have to make sure we stick to budget or no takeaway money available. try looking for good "takeaway food" recipes at home - much cheaper

haircuts - need more information on household occupants. for males in household, can hair be cut with trimmer? low cost to purchase, then basically free haircuts.

work clothing - can this be cut? how much do you actually purchase for adults? children grow, so obviously need clothing more, but adults generally don't NEED that much new clothing

christmas - can this be trimmed at all? use nectar/tesco/boots points to pay for some of it (save throughout year). also check the money-neutral christmas thread in special occasions section of board for very very good ideas on how to make christmas money-neutral!

newspapers/magazines - library. free. this could be zero.

meals at work/coffees/sandwiches/snacks - £5 per month. is this accurate? odd amount, just checking.

smokes - £173.33!!! I think you pretty much know that most people here are going to recommend you and/or DP quit. This is a huge amount of money saved right off the top!! (and it's healthy to be a non-smoker!!)
