I'm with Nedmundo, go back and ask your Optician to put the prescription on your face and have a look around. I suspect you'll find a nice improvement, especially in the distance. Its mostly about seeing as clearly as possible, forget about "eyestrain".

Exactly my point.
It's probably one of those things you won't notice until you know the difference. Like painting a "white" door.
Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”

As a few others have pointed out the prescription is more for the astigmatism than the strength, like mine!

I remember having glasses in school for reading/close up work, but I hated them so never wore them. Time moved on and I learnt to cope although I did get headaches quite regularly. It wasn't until I got an office job that I decided to get my eyes tested and I got up to date glasses. I was told they were for "general" use when I thought I needed them, but like 1jim I wear them all the time now. It's too much hassle to keep taking them on and off!

I can still just about read without them, but I feel my eyes straining quite quickly if I do so they've been a great benefit for me.

I second the suggestion of getting a cheap pair at first if you don't think you really need them. There are some fairly acceptable looking glasses in the £10 and £15 range at Tesco. If you find you are using them regularly, then you can start looking for a pair that really suits you and is nicely comfortable.
Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

I have a lazy right eye (although my eyes don't work together so I never use my right eye when both my eyes are open) and an astigmatism. My prescription is weak but I have a noticeable astigmatism so I always choose to have glasses just so that I can make things out better. I'm into photography so find having glasses helps my vision to be more clarified.

I've ordered a pair to see if it makes much difference at work.

Cheers for your responses.
