Split Nail

One of my nails has decided to split lenghtwise, any ideas how to limit the damage? Its about half a centimetre long.
I've already cut it right back to reduce the risk of snagging and dabbed some gloopy nail strenghener over the affected area. Thats probabally about the best I can do whilst I'm in the office.
Its a shame, because I want them long for an upcoming do, but you gotta do what you gotta do....

I find the best way to repair it for long enough to let it grow out is to use nail glue (or superglue) plus a teabag (or tissue). There are videos on You Tube showing you how to do it...

I wouldn't use one of those strengtheners unless you have to - they're very drying. Starry's advice sounds good, I would also add that you should make a point of trying to moisturise the nail below the split to stop it from spreading...anything oily will do, a specialist cuticle oil is probably best but I often use regular handcream and/or vaseline as well...0

I've not used that strenghener in months, its just been kicking about in the bottom of my bag for yonks. Figured a small dab as "glue" was better than doing nothing!Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0

In desperation I just tried this on a split toenail - it's split lengthwise and I'm terrified of it cracking open. And it worked. Yay.
So eating humble pie on the using nail strengthener
thanks starry 0 -
