Maybe not your cup of tea, but on Easter Sunday, day 2 of the Scottish International Open Karate Championships are being held in Meadowbank stadium. Day 2 is all of the younger competitors under 14.

15 countries are taking part, including the Irish team. This is an all day event so you could pop in at any time to see the events.

    Hi everyone,

I thought i would let you know how the weekend went.

Well firstly we had an amazing trip. The weather was amazing which was a bonus.

We stayed in the travellodge at the end of princess street and were so lucky as we got the room on the corner of the building. It had 3 floor to ceiling windows all looking back along princess street and towards the castle.... :j Not bad for £19.....

We started with the bus tour.. I enjoyed this but my son got a little bored half way through... Which is to be expected as he is 7.... I thought it was quite expensive for an adult and child at £12

We then went to gladstones house... I read from here that they had an easter egg hunt... It was interesting enough for me as an adult. But my son was only interested in finding the chicks as part of the easter egg puzzle and then getting back to reception to get his egg..... So £10 for a basic easter egg did not represent great value....

Then on to the castle... Unfortunately the queues were very very long... Son got bored after waiting 20 mins and not getting far.... Again I was struck by the cost.... It was going to cost us something like £22 for an adult and a child... In my books that is really expensive.....

So we then went down the royal mile and caught a few street shows which we both enjoyed....

For the evening we decided to do the cinema and ten pin bowling. We planned to go and see Rio, only available in 3D. When I asked how much it was going to be £19!!!. Thankfully my son agreed and I was able to bribe him with a few games in the ten pin bowling alley... We then had 3 games of bowling each for £7 each....

On to Monday..... A walk down princess gardens which was beautiful.,.... But what happened to the clock made of flowers, I had fond memories of this as a child but could not find it....

We then went to camera obscura which was about £19 for the two of us.... But great entertainment. 7 year old said this was the highlight of the two days and I really enjoyed it also... So much to do....

On to dynamic earth... Again nearly £19 for both of us.... I really enjoyed it and Son enjoyed most of it.. He particularly enjoyed the interactive aspects and we spent almost 3 hrs in here.

So overall what a brilliant weekend.... I am exhauseted sitting here back at home as we crammed so much in.... Only negative I would say was the cost of all the attractions, in particular the child prices whcih I found to be very expensive...

However the buggest hit was definately camera obscura with dynamic earth a close second...

Also a big thumbs up to travellodge for the best bargain I have ever had in terms of accomodation...

Finally, than you to everyone for all your tips......

Don't worry, it's still there, you were just a bit too early this year so it's not flowering yet ! It's on the right of the steps as you enter the gardens from The Mound in case you are here again soon !
