I am in need of bedding plants for our garden that will last the summer and at a resonable price. I am willing to travel but east/ south belfast and surrounding areas would be most suitable.

We always buy ours from B&Q - got 3 trays yesterday on 3 for £12! Have used them last few years and they are always great. Window boxes and tubs all nicely filled last night.

    Pity about the service though.

I was there yesterday and had picked up about £40 of bits and pieces. Got to the till where the young girl working had what appeared to be a friend waiting for her. She said to me 'one minute' and skipped off up to the customer services desk with this other girl. I then see her on the phone and talking to someone else at CS.

5 minutes later, and I'm still standing like a lemon at the till. I walked up to her, told her that when she was finished chatting she could replace the stock I now wasn't going to buy, and walked out. She never even batted an eyelid.

Unbelievably bad service, and a place I will never set foot in again.

What about St Georges market on Friday morning? The earlier you go the better the choice. Young guy from Portadown sells stuff in really good condition. I was there last week for a load and cursed the money I had wasted in Homebase.

Lidl seem to do some good stuff pretty cheap. I am not a gardening expert, but the plants seem in good condition. They have bedding plants from next Thursday, but I believe they go pretty quick.

There are a few people at the car boot sales who are good value. Dunsilly in Antrim and Ballymena on Saturday morning nearly always have stalls with garden plants at reasonable prices.

Also Lidl is good as Willyk says but they never hold a big range of stock at one tim, but rotate it from week to week. Very good value and in very good condition.

Glenwherry Nursery, half way between Ballymena and Larne is the best place i've been to to buy all types of plants cheap and in tip-top condition. Massive range of stuff too.
