Ulster Bank to stop issuing Cheques Guarentee Cards

I was in my local branch the other day & the woman in front of me was asking the cashier if she can still write cheques.Apparently the Ulster bank is to stop issuing the Cheque Guarantee Cards from what she said,but cheque books will still be issued.
Anyone else heard this?

Not many places will take cheques "over the counter" So I don't see the need for them?Dave0

Applies to all Banks from 30 June and was announced a couple of years ago. http://www.ukpayments.org.uk/media_centre/press_releases/-/page/719/
