Lloyds TSB late Marker

Late last summer I opened up a Lloyds TSB basic account to put my benefits it to and to use it as my paypal funding source. I did not like the account so I stopped using it and after a while I contacted their head office to close it and they told me it was already closed due to it being over drawn for a month. When I got the first letter I got my card and cut it up and threw it away, the over drawn letter was after.

I have got another letter today from them stating that they have put a late payment marker on my credit file, they claim they sent me letters but I never received them and they are not going to take the marker off. I am only 21 and I am going to struggle to get credit if the marker stays on. I have done nothing wrong and I was not once notified. They should of sent any letter like that via a recorded service as the consequences of not dealing with it immediately can cause problems like this.

Can something be done about this, I am currently having problems with my mental health, I have quite severe depression and I am on strong anti-anxiety medication and having this problem is just making it worse.

They are under no obligation to send any letter out recorded, not even something as serious as a default notice or notice of court action.

Surely at the very least you received a statement that showed your account was overdrawn? did you read your statements? Why did your account go overdrawn? it is a specific condition of basic accounts that you do not allow it to go overdrawn.

Usually lenders won't send out anything more than a statement before filing a late payment marker. A late payment marker is not great but its not the end of the world, especially if its just one on one account from last year and if all other payments on all other accounts have been made on time.

I got nothing from them, I got a statement after the first month but it was not over drawn. I had no idea I was in the negative or I would of done something about it. It may be a mark but it's not one I deserve and I want to challenge it.

Well I would start by asking for a list of transactions so you can see why and when it went overdrawn, exactly what transaction it was, once you know that you can see if you are likely to be able to do anything about it.

Check your credit file and see what they have put. One late payment of one month will make little or no difference to lenders decisions. If its 3 months or over - you get a code 3 which is more serious. If its a default - you will have serious problems.

Lloyds gave me a default incorrectly. The first i knew about it was when i was refused credit. I had never been refused before and had an excellent rating until this appeared on the file. I never received any letters!!! The ombudsman AND Information Commissioner both sided with Loyds. However, after i threatened court proceedings - they removed it.

I will take a look tomorrow. I had a contract with Orange but half way in I started to get serious health problems and I could not afford it. They said they will put it as settled when I pay it off, could that cause problems too? they said it should not affect my credit rating.

    Sigh
