Money stolen from bank account - bank won't help

Hi
My husband discovered today that over £1400 has been stolen from his bank account over the last few weeks.

Unfortunately, he does not check is statements and does not do internet banking.

The bank (HSBC) say that as he can't prove it was not him, they won't help.

He's asked for a full statement of all the transactions, but apparently many of them were by phone for food and clothes, so proving he was not at certain locations like ATMs will not help.

We are both angry and upset, as part of the stolen money was the overdraft, so now WE owe the bank too!

Is there anything we can do? We are desperate to find an answer.

So he needs to find out the delivery addresses for thiose goods and preferably the phone numbers associated with the calls.

Found this on my account and cannot remember buying it, what, where, details of the call etc.

how were the payments done? atm? over the phone?? surely their fraud debt can see the irregular pattern?! i hope the cancelled the card. im not surprised by HSBC's attitude, they're abysmal and deny responsibility of anything.

Blimey! Natwest stopped any money going out of my bank because "I'd spent an unusual amount of money in a short period time" when I went out and bought a LOAD of stuff for the baby.

I looked a right pleb in Tesco when I bought a couple of beers to relax with that evening and my card wouldn't work. Had to call Natwest and confirm all the transactions.

I wonder how these crooks made payments, they must have had his full name, billing address all the details off the card and the code off the strip on the back.

Has your hubby let his card out of his site at any point, or been a victim of a phising attack online?

    Sounds ridiculous to me.

A similar thing happened to my Father, who banks with Lloyds, a few years ago. He visited the bank to discuss the matter and they refunded the stolen money there and then, and arranged for replacement cards to be sent out.

Has your husband reported the theft to the police?

Identity theft is when your personal details are stolen and identity fraud is when those details are used to commit fraud.
