They taste like lentils :D  Try them and see.
  • Have you ever had pease pudding? That has a similar taste and mouth-feel to thick lentil soup.

There's also the roof-of-the-mouth savouriness comparable to thick, stodgy mushy peas. :D

Lentil soup is one of my all-time favourite comfort foods. And it's so quick, cheap and easy. They're cheap enough to try them out to see if you like them. :)

  • This recipe came from the 'horses mouth' so to speak (a friends Greek MIL) so the quantities are a bit vague.

Bring a pan of cold waterand lentils to the boil.

After about 5 minutes throw away the dirty water.

Add fresh boiling water, 4 cloves of garlic, a handful of fresh oregano and half a cup of olive oil.

Boil for approx 90 minutes, topping up with boiling water as necessary. Add salt and vinegar to taste. Serve hot in big soup dishes.

From memory this is a very thick soup served with rustic bread. A kind of Mediterranean mushy peas. Absolutely delicious :j

*It does have the unfortunate look of fresh cow pats though - but don't let that put you off ;):D *
