Can you "cook" porridge in a flask?

Just wondered if you can you "cook" porridge in a flask?

I was going to put it in a vacuum flask at night, using hot water and hope to eat it at work in the morning.

I thought that I would use water instead of milk - don't want to make yoghurt by mistake!

Maybe I will just give it a try and let you know.

Sounds like a goodly idea if it works, Minerva. My OH loves porridge and as he does 12 hour shifts he could take some in a flask if it works. Let us know!
  • Was going to try it last night, but discovered that OH had finished off all the porridge! (and left behind an empty box in the cupboard, grrr!)

I'm going to get some porridge oats today and give it a try overnight.

I will report back and let you know what it is like!

I would think there's a good chance for this - goes back a few years but an old scout leader of ours showed us how to "cook" porridge by making it up and getting it good and hot, before putting the pan into a straw filled wooden box overnight. It was fine in the morning (as far as I can tell as its not exactly a favourite) and I would imagine the flask is just performing the same function as the straw box. My only question would be whether the flask is able to keep it hot enough for long enough with such a small quantity - the box "trick" was with a huge pan of it so there was more heat energy to keep it hot.

They used that system in the forces. It was called a Hay Box.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
