how do I cash this cheque?

I am desperate to start my dmp this month but am waiting for my new bank account details. my salary gets paid into my Lloyds account but of course then they keep most of it to pay off my loan and cc. Work needs 2 weeks notice to change my salary to a different bank account so I have asked them for a cheque this month ( we get paid early onthe 22nd as it's christmas) So even if my new account is up and running and I pay the cheque into it i will be too late with CCCS to start my dmp and also wont be able to get any money out of the new account until the cheque clears. Is there any way of cahingthe cheque, I think there are people who do this but assume they make a large charge for it or is it possible for me to put it into someone elses account somehow?

  • there is a company that cashes work cheques, not sure what the company is called, i am sure someone else will know
  • Ask work to make it payable to 'Cash'
  • we are going to be leaving lloyds bank also, which bank did you go with if you dont mind me asking
  • Oh... couple of bits of warning about posts 2 & 3:

    - Post 2 - there may be excessive charges associated with using this "facility" - seen advertised rates of 4% for someone cashig cheques. (never used the facility - therefore may/prbably be higher)

    - Post 3 - if the cheque is misplaced or lost or stolen, then the person cashing the cheque can get all the fund and you will be penniless. THe bank nor employer will probably accept responsiblity associated with the payee being "cash".

Not sure who has the quickest cheque clearing time - but as the 22 Dec is a Friday, and the next banking day is until Wed 27 Dec, it is likely that you may not get the funds available in your account until Sat 30 Dec or even Tuesday 2 January depening on your new banks policy.

I would check with your new bank too, to confirm when the funds would be in your account.

    Good luck

Hi 3H - Can you not get the cheque made out to either a family member, or a very close trustworthy friend and put it in their account?
