Tax rebate went to or now paying back tax debt

Help

Payslip shows tax paid £100 more than normal. Having queried this it appears that some time last year the Tax office issued a cheque nearly £2000 which was because an over payment had occured over the previous year. That cheque was sent straight to the Official Receivers and I knew nothing about it.

Now the tax office say it was issued in error and the money has to be paid back. This means over one hundred pound less income a month.

Does anyone have any opinions on this?

Contact the receiver who dealt with your case...let them sort the error

As it was not paid back to you I would do as Phil suggests and refer it to the OR to sort out
