disheartened with CCS DMP

Hello all, sorry if this turns out to be an annoying newbie question you get asked alot but ive been on a ccs dmp for nearly three years, i started off with just under £10,000 debt from 3 x credit card companies, I know have just under £10,000 debt from 3 x collection agencies.I started off with 8 years to clear my debt and stil have 8 years. I defaulted on my dmp earlier this year when i was assaulted and off work for 3 months without pay (agency worker) and the goverment refused to pay me any sick benefit, so i had to live off my mother until i could get back to work, i only missed two payments though, I'm completely disheartened by this never ending debt and am really regretting going to the ccs. any advice? thanx

How much are you paying compared to what the minimums should have been? The more you are paying I guess the less chance they have of being sympathetic to you.
Have you written to the companies chasing the debts recently reminding them that things haven't changed and that they need to start helping you by stopping/cancelling interest and charges. Has CCCS written to them recently? Have you tried the companies complaint procedures re them not helping you at all, being difficult by not stopping interest and charges etc?
When you've done these steps you can them take them to the ombudsman for them to try and intervene although this is not a quick process and may or may not help and I believe you have to have exhausted the companies internal complaints procedures before you can go to the ombudsman.
Have you thought about making settlement offers at all? ie offering 30% of the debt with one company to get it written off? how's the emergency fund? can you borrow from your mum to get some settlements? Do one at a time and offer to the next one if the first doesn't play ball :)

I'm sure it is a long boring slog, but you have just posted on a web site with lots of people in exactly the same situation as you, the secret seems to be get involved... join challenges, create your own if you come up with any brilliant ideas... Suddenly you are not alone and things become a bit more fun. Why do you think there are so many people on here, making our own entertainment...

The other thing you could do is post up your SOA, http://www.makesenseofcards.co.uk and see if any of us can come up with more ways to save money, build up your emergency fund to make the settlements df is talking about...

  • Hi, sorry to hear of your postition, when you say CCS do you mean CCCS the non-fee paying charity debt advice service, or does CCS stand for one of the other FEE paying debt agaencies. If it is the latter I would definately have a look at the CCCS website as any fees you are paying could be going to your creditors NOT the debt agency. Good luck :)
